Construction of Temple Shalom in 1967

Since its founding in 1963, Temple Shalom has endeavored to meet the spiritual, cultural and social needs of the Reform Jewish Community of Northern Monmouth (Aberdeen, Colts Neck, Hazlet, Holmdel, Jackson, Manalapan, Marlboro, Matawan, Middletown) and Southeastern Middlesex (Englishtown, Monroe Township, Old Bridge, Parlin, Sayreville, South Amboy) counties.

Our temple was constructed in 1967, with Rabbi Henry M. Weiner at the helm for the next 32 years. The temple has been expanded in several subsequent stages reflecting the growth of our dynamic congregation. Our religious school, which spans the entire range from kindergarten to 12th grade, is a source of tremendous pride.  We have very active Youth, Brotherhood and Women of Temple Shalom groups. Temple Shalom offers many and varied educational, cultural and social activities for married and single adults of all ages.

In 1999, Rabbi Laurence P. Malinger became our spiritual leader. He works with various groups in the Temple, helps to introduce new programs for adults, assists with technological needs, and most importantly works with our children. He teaches, counsels and advises them in class, at camp, on trips, at ToSTY events, and maintains relationships with them long after graduation. It is apparent they share a mutual respect and appreciation, as many have now called upon him to preside over their own marriages, baby naming and other life events.

Our staff also includes Cantor Sarah Zemel, who drives down from New Rochelle, NY to bless us with her incredible voice and lift us with her singing and spiritual talent; our Religious School Director, David Gronlund-Jacob; our Choir Director, John Balme; and our Office Manager, Jen Rapp.
