ToSTY (Grades 8-12)
The Youth Committee is excited to start a new school year. We have installed an enthusiastic Leadership Council, which is anxious to get underway with a full calendar of events. This year’s council is co-led by Seth Karten and Brendan Kaston, and we wish them every success in their new leadership roles.
This year, Rabbi Malinger and Wayne Christie, chair of the Youth Committee, are co-leading as advisors for ToSTY. Rabbi Malinger also serves as a member of the clergy team for NFTY-GER and has been an active member of NFTY for more than 36 years. Wayne has been involved in Youth work for many years, serving as a coordinator for Youth Services during the High Holy Days. He and his wife, Jean, work together to help parents and teens work together in strengthening their Jewish connections to Temple Shalom and Reform youth. We will mentor the senior youth group, grades 8-12. All Jewish teens are welcome to join.
ToSTY Tweens (Grades 6-7)
ToSTY Tweens is the junior youth group of Temple Shalom and membership is free to all temple members in grades 6-7. The purpose of this group is to build social relationships with other Jewish youth outside of the educational environment. Under the supervision and guidance of their advisor, children will experience opportunities for personal growth, engage in community service and enrich their Jewish identity. Diverse programming is designed to be stimulating and conducive to the development of strong social bonds among the children, and our Jewish tradition. Membership is free, and there will be 5 events over the course of this year! This is a wonderful opportunity for your children to make new friends in a fun, Jewish environment.
The Advisors for this program are Rabbi Malinger and Wayne Christie. They each have been involved with youth programs for more than three decades and love the opportunity to strengthen Jewish connections for young teens. Our programs are designed to have interactive events that encourages the development of relationships as well as create an environment that enables young teens to explore their Jewish identity.
