Hebrew High School

Jewish learning never ends and that is especially true at Temple Shalom Religious School. We are proud of our 8-10th graders who go on to continue their studies in our Confirmation Program (meeting Sundays 6:00pm - 7:30pm) and our 11 -12th graders who attend Post Confirmation classes (meeting one Sunday a month 6:00pm - 7:30pm). Our students are able to apply what they have learned in a more adult setting through discussion, elective classes, trips and retreats.  For more information, please contact our Religious School Director, David Gronlund-Jacob, at 732-566-2961 or email eddirector@templeshalomnj.org.

The post B'nai-Mitzvah years are all about making connections….

Students in 8th & 9th grade begin to connect prior learning to Judaism in their world and their lives.  They are adults in the Jewish community and are encouraged to connect with other Jewish teens, to other arms of the Temple Shalom community and to the interfaith world in which they live.  Connections help them to find their Jewish path.  As they head toward Confirmation, they will earn credits by attending class and participating in the community and/or worship experiences of their choice. They will have opportunities to join with teens from other synagogues for retreats, social action projects, Shabbatons and more.

During each session our 10th grade students will study with Rabbi Malinger for one hour and select from our electives the other hour.  They will continue to earn Temple Shalom Community Connection credits.  Students will participate in the Confirmation Service. Their studies will include a trip to the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism’s (RAC’s) L’Taken Seminar in Washington DC.  This required trip helps students to understand the political process and the Reform Jewish stance on many issues facing our legislators.

Post Confirmation

The goal of Post Confirmation is to give our students an opportunity to explore what’s next as they get ready to face life after high school. The students will experience Jewish learning and worship services in another city in the United States. They will be immersed in the history of another Jewish community by celebrating Shabbat at a local synagogue, visiting museums, and enjoying local food and entertainment. This trip will be an unforgettable opportunity for the group to bond and strengthen their relationships with one another. Their studies will culminate in a graduation service in the spring.
